Joyce Sikora Lovse has worked in the home health care industry for many years. She has always had a predilection for seniors and the disabled. Before coming to home care she had a successful career in the travel industry, earning the CTC – Certified Travel Counselor designation as a travel agent and manager. She also worked in customer service, training and sales. She is a graduate of Aquinas College with a BA in Communications. Taking the plunge to open her own senior care agency and to start her own company in 2000 was a challenge and risk that she felt she was destined to do. Not so much because she wanted to be an entrepreneur, rather she possessed the desire to serve. In retrospect, AngelCare has been the perfect career. “It’s been exciting and rewarding to have cultivated a company that has grown from 3 to 120 employees in just 10 years however, I have only been the catalyst. Our success couldn’t have come without the day to day efforts of our Angel Team, every employee has contributed to our growth and to the client’s that we serve." Joyce has been recognized by the Grand Rapids Business Journal as a finalist for Top Women Owned Businesses in West Michigan in 2005; 2007; and 2009. AngelCare has also been recognized by the Grand Rapids Business Journal as a Top Home Health Care Agency: 2004; 2005; 2006; 2007; and 2008. In April of 2008, Joyce participated in a local PBS presentation as an expert in home health care along with Ann Elerments of the Area Agency on Aging of West Michigan. The local show was a supplement to the AARP national program “Caring for Our Parents”. Joyce is a strong advocate for seniors and in-home care legislative issues and has advocated for increased funding for in-home care with Kent Senior Advocates and MI Choice Medicaid Waiver Programs. She currently is serving her second term as a board member for the Michigan Chapter of the National Private Duty Association. She is also involved with professional care givers training issues on the education committee for NPDA national organization and is committed to AngelCare's annual, Community Service Project, providing flu shots for Kent County Residents age 60 - 64, funded by the Kent County Senior Millage. Joyce also serves on the Women’s Resource Center Employment Board. In her spare time Joyce and her husband, Marty, enjoy traveling, hockey and spending time with good friends and family. Her daughter Lauren works at AngelCare as a receptionist and fill-in caregiver. Her son, Emery graduated from Calvin College with a degree in Social Work but is currently pursuing a career playing semi-pro hockey. |
